Thinking of seeding a winter wheat crop this season? If so, it may be worth your while to talk to the people at Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) and Viterra; there may be some cash or crop input discounts to be had.

DUC is seeking to increase nesting habitat in selected areas of the Prairies, and it’s offering producers in some municipalities a cash payment of $4 per acre to seed winter wheat. Fields seeded to that crop allow for more successful duck nesting, and that leads to increased bird populations.

Viterra has partnered with Ducks Unlimited to offer growers a “loyalty bonus,” which would reduce input costs for farmers signing up for the program.
