New tandem discs have smaller transport sizes

Although no-till technologies have drastically reduced cultivation in most areas of the Prairies, Michael Dubuc of Ezee-On, a Vegreville, Alta. tillage implement maker, says producer interest in that company’s heavy discs is still strong.

In response to that demand, Ezee-On is showing two new disc models this year: the 6650 and 8700-series.

These new tandem discs are available in sizes from 20 to 42.5 feet, but they offer smaller transport sizes. Both models fold up to a maximum of only 13.5 feet in height.

Some of the company’s previous offerings measured nearly 19 feet high when folded, according to Dubuc.

The new discs eliminate the need to obtain over-height permits in some jurisdictions in order to move them on public roadways.

The 8700 offers an eight-inch frame with a 700-lb.-per-foot weight, hence the 8700 model number designation. Following the same numbering style, the 6650 has a six-inch frame weighing in at 650 lbs. per foot.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price on both of these discs runs about $2,300 per foot of width.
