New Holland rolls out newest utility tractor

The Boomer 8N utility tractor is one of the most unique models released in 2009 by any manufacturer, at least so far; and New Holland has one on display.

As its “8N” moniker implies, this tractor design is inspired by the classic little grey 8N Ford of roughly 60 years ago.

With this retro look, NH seems to be appealing to the fond memories of those who can remember spending time behind the wheel of the original version. But it also appeals to those who want a little style and flash when it comes to their tractor.

The new 8N is no basic replacement for a team of horses, as its previous incarnation was. This is one of the few tractors on the market that offers frills like a chrome rollover protective structure (ROPS). And the 8N has been reincarnated as a front-wheel assist design.

Power is provided by a naturally aspirated four-cylinder 2.2 litre engine that puts out 40 PTO horsepower. That power is delivered through a standard CVT (continuously variable) transmission, which provides a maximum speed of 18.6 mph.

Lift capacity of the three-point hitch is 2,800 lbs. With a list of options such as that, it’s clear this tractor is intended for the upscale market.
